Something I appreciate about The Adventure Zone’s “Balance” arc is how much of the high weirdness it’s known for is just completely standard D&D batshittery. Like, that whole business with the spare clone? There’s literally a spell right in the core rulebook of nearly every edition of the game that does exactly that – it’s basically the necromancer’s answer to raise dead. High-level parties are expected to pull shit like that. And I’m not saying this to impugn the originality of the campaign or its players; I’m saying I appreciate it because now a lot more people have an accurate idea of what Dungeons & Dragons is actually like.
